Revised Bus Route Recommendations

March 24th, 2009

After reviewing and considering more than 400 written comments and meeting with community groups for additional, targeted input, TCAT staff revised the draft proposed bus route recommendations.

It's impossible to accommodate every service request.  One rider wants the bus ten minutes later to accommodate a childcare schedule; another rider wants the bus ten minutes earlier to make it to work on time.  One prospective rider wants service extended to his neighborhood--but doing so would take away service somewhere else.

In spite of this difficulty, TCAT staff have done their best to address all of the most frequently cited areas of concern, including (but not limited to):  Varna, Commonland, Aldi's, Titus Towers, Tompkins Community Action/ Salvation Army, Maplewood, and others.

This is a large (+/- 8mb) file.  If you are using a dial-up connection, we suggest that you download individual route pages above.

Option Three - KML (Map) Files

Download Bus Route Interactive Map file
Do you use Google Earth to view map information?  Google Earth, a free download available at http://earth.google.com/ (external link), allows you to view map information interactively.  TCAT's proposed route changes are available in KML format for viewing in Google Earth.  To view the proposed routes in Google Earth:

1)  Open your web browser and enter the URL http://earth.google.com
2)  Click the "Download Google Earth 5.0" button, and follow the prompts.
3)  Once Google Earth is installed, click here to download the KML (map) file.  Then, click "open" to open the file with Google Earth.

*Please note that TCAT staff cannot offer technical support for the installation of Google Earth or the viewing of our KML (map) file in Google Earth.  If you have difficulty, please view the route proposal in PDF format in Option One or Option Two above.  Thanks for your understanding.

Option Four - Spreadsheet (Tables)

Download Spreadsheet (added 3/30!)
This spreadsheet summarizes:
1)  The days (weekdays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays) that each route operates;
2)  The frequency each route operates (i.e. how frequently the buses run);
3)  The span of service for each route (i.e. the times of the earliest and latest trips).
The document is an *.xls file, which can be opened by Microsoft Excel and other programs.  This document does not contain route schedules.

Please review the recommendations and see how they've changed as a result of your input.  After your review, consider submitting another written comment, addressed to the TCAT Board of Directors, as part of the public hearing process.

Again, thanks for your interest in our plan.  We appreciate your input and your assistance!
