...along with a few permanent changes that will fine-tune the
transit agency's comprehensive route improvement plan that went into effect
this past winter.
TCAT implemented a new Transit Development Plan on Jan. 17
to offer more streamlined, efficient and convenient routes. Based on passenger
feedback since then, TCAT decided to change three routes, the 51 and 93,
effective May 23, and the 92, effective this fall.
"The overhaul to our route system, which came after two
years of intense study and much public input, has been tremendously
successful," said Nancy Oltz, TCAT's service development manager. "After the
new system went into effect, we listened to rider feedback and made some minor changes
to better serve our passengers."
Oltz said the Route 51 will go back to traveling down Pine
Tree Road and into East Hill Plaza, instead of using Maple Avenue as it had
since Jan. 17. TCAT made the change to
better accommodate senior citizens living in Ellis Hollow Apartments, she said.
The Route 93, which does not operate Sunday service during
the summer, will also be changed to travel down Cradit Farm Road and on to
Thurston Avenue to better serve riders who have long been accustomed to being
picked up at Balch Hall and Risley Hall, Oltz said. The Route 93's Sunday
service will resume Aug. 22.
Routes 92 will
operate during the week of May 23 - May 29 for senior week. However, the Route
92 will not be in operation Sunday, May 30 through Thursday, August 19. Route
92 also has a routing change which will go into effect Friday, Aug. 20, when
fall service resumes. At that time, the route will be changed to travel on
Dearborn Road to Wyckoff and Highland Roads to pick up riders who are also long
accustomed to waiting there. The Route 92 will also be changed to travel on
Thurston Avenue to Wait Avenue by Balch Hall and Risley Hall to also better
serve those passengers.
Other minor changes to the TDP based on feedback from both riders
and bus operators include:
Route 14
will travel by way of the Professional Building on its way into Cayuga Medical
Center.
Route 15
will continue to stop at Wegman's, but the actual time point will be changed to
Tops to prevent the bus from laying over at the Wegman's passenger shelter,
where the roadway is more congested.
Route 21
has a slight timing adjustment from Jacksonville Outbound to Aubles. A time stop has been added for Juniper Manor
after leaving Aubles Trailer Park at 1:40 p.m.
Route 32
will now serve Arrowood Drive/Convenient Care on its way outbound to the
airport. The last trip going into
Arrowood Drive will be at 3:35 p.m. This will not affect the timing.
Route 40
has slight timing adjustments between Varna and Seneca St.
Though summer service generally begins Sunday, May 23 and
lasts through Aug. 21, some of the current routes and schedules will vary on
dates to accommodate departing and arriving students. They are as follows:
Route 22 will provide service between
Green Street, Cass Park and Taughannock Falls State
Park from Monday, June 28
through Friday, Aug. 20.
Route 30 will not be operating on Saturdays and
Sundays beginning Sunday, May 23. Weekend service will resume on Saturday, Aug.
21.
Route 31 will not run the 10:40 p.m. trip departing
from Green Street. The late-night trip will resume Monday, Aug. 23.
Route 82 will be reduced to operating every 30
minutes as opposed to 15 minutes. Trips departing Hasbrouck at 15 and 45
minutes after the hour will not operate Sunday, May 23. through Saturday,
August 21.
Routes 83 will not be operate Monday, May 24 through
Thursday, August 19. Route 83 will resume
service on Friday, August 20.
